Hvar is one of the most fascinating towns in Europe – the home to the oldest public theatre in Europe; a beautifully restored 14thC Arsenal that was used to outfit Venetian galleys; the birthplace of the ‘father of fingerprinting’; an ancient tradition of lace-making that is now a protected cultural heritage by UNESCO and so much more.
Come with us on a leisurely stroll through the milllenia as we discover the ancient, the old and the new that makes Hvar Town so thoroughly wonderful. Unlike most tours of the town, we’ll begin high up at the Fortica, the imposing 16thC fortress that was built to protect the harbor. Then we will wind our way down to the back streets and alleys to soak up the history and traditions of this very special place

Our half day tour starts with a car transfer to Hvar’s Fortica Castle, which is the best place for the most amazing view of the entire city and island archipelago.
After learning more about the castle and its history we’ll begin our gentle stroll down to the city center through lush pine woods until we reach old part of the town called Groda. At Groda we will stop at Benedictine Nuns’ museum where you will see their signature works of art: Agava pattern laces, just one of the five UNESCO heritages on Hvar – the most of any island in the world.
Afterwards, we will discover the city square (the largest in Dalmatia, the historic Arsenal with its recently discovered ancient Roman ruins below, the oldest public theatre in Europe dating back to 1612, and Hvar cathedral, before finishing our tour with a well-earned espresso at Cafe Piazza overlooking the waterfront.
Meeting point:
We will pick you up at your hotel, villa, private accommodation, where your boat is moored or agreed pick-up location. We will agree on this when the tour is booked.
Departure time:
Mornings 9 – 12 Noon, afternoons 5 – 8 PM. This tour can also be arranged at a time that is convenient for you, so please ask us what your unique requirements are and we will be happy to get back to you with the particulars and our price.
End location:
We will end this tour where you wish – at the marina, your hotel, villa or private accommodation. Just let us know

Great and informative tour!
‘’ We really loved Violet – she was friendly and you could tell she was passionate and knowledgeable …The drive was beautiful – high up in the rocky mountains of Hvar, away from the hustle … We stopped on the way at a scenic overlook and it was beautiful. We visited one of the top three wineries in Hvar and the tasting was done in a cave. Pretty cool … We also got to try 4 different kinds of olive oils with a side of cheese and bread…. the atmosphere of the wine cellar (think romantic candle light surrounded by oak barrels) …’’
