Lavender fields forever walk

Lavender fields forever walk

Seasonal activity, for the small groups, min 4 people with an island brunch/supper included!

Did you know that a small village on Hvar which until recently had a population of just five people was once the centre of lavender production for all Dalmatia? Or that just 50 years ago, this fragrant island accounted for 8% of the world’s lavender production?

Sadly economic hardship and devastating forest fires have decimated that lavender industry, but Hvar’s lavender story is a fascinating one, and one which is undergoing a revival with the rebirth of that village, Velo Grablje. Thanks to the work of some enthusiastic locals with links to the village, the village is thriving thanks to its lavender heritage, and its population has increased to 14, there is a restaurant, winter pub and its most famous attraction, the annual Lavender Festival at the end of June.

This seasonal tour (lavender is in bloom usually from late May until mid-July, with the best time to visit in late June to coincide with the festival) includes an expert guide to take you through the aromatic fields, where you will learn the harsh realities of life in Dalmatia before tourism. The walk will include a tour of Velo Grablje and its two small churches, one of Dalmatia’s most atmospheric villages, followed by lunch or dinner in the village, complete with a capella traditional Dalmatia singing.
