Life on Hvar is synonymous with the sea itself. For the people of Hvar the sea drives their emotions, dictates their moods, and puts bread on their tables. On the island, fishing is a trade and art that has been passed from father to son for countless generations. This excursion gives those with a passion for fishing and/or the sea an opportunity to directly experience this tradition and way of life.

Whether you want to try your hand at fishing or just observe, you'll get the opportunity to learn from a local fisherman and listen to his stories of life at sea. The trip ends with a stunning fish dinner at the hotel restaurant where the group will be accommodated - where you'll feast on the fruits of your labour and enjoy fine wine.

Tour description: This tour lets you experience a unique and traditional Croatian way of life. After picking you up, we will take you to Vira, a fishing harbour near Hvar where we would board our boat. We’ll pass though Paklinski Island or to north east side of Hvar island (depending on the weather occasions). The nets that are used to catch fish are thrown into the sea very early in the morning (3 - 4AM) or even the day before. The most amazing and exciting part is picking up the net when it is full of catch. Fishing with parangal is a very simple technique using very thin but very firm rope. Every 1 or 1.5 meters there is tight nylon string with hook at the end. Parangal is usually used for catching very big fish like: eels, dentex and delicious red scorpion. After pulling up several nets, we will try our luck squid fishing (if it’s September or October) using ‘’samolovke’’(a piece of hook on nylon attached to buoy). To keep us motivated, we’ll enjoy a local Dalmatian lunch with great wine or beer if you prefer, as well as local brandy to keep us warm! When we return with the catch we’ll teach you how to clean and to prepare your catch.

Meeting point: we will pick you up at your hotel, villa, private accommodation, where your boat is moored or meet you at one of our four tour booths in Hvar Town. We will agree on this when the tour is booked.

Departure time: Mornings between 7 - 9AM or afternoons 5 - 7PM. This tour can also be arranged at a time that is convenient for you, so please ask us what your unique requirements are and we will be happy to get back to you with the particulars and our price.

End location: We will end this tour where you wish - at the marina, your hotel, villa or private accommodation. Just let us know..

What's extra: Although boat has sun tent, bring sun cream and hat, jacket if for early or late part of the day when it get chilly on the sea. Also bring a towel if you want to swim. This program includes lunch or dinner, but we can suggest gratuities to guides and items purchased for personal use.
